Yale College's Christian Roots

Yale College, established in 1745, originally had the following rules:

-The president or a substitute shall pray in the college hall every morning and evening, and shall read a suitable portion of Scripture.  Every absent undergraduate shall be fined one penny; those tardy shall pay half a penny.
-Any student guilty of blasphemy, fornication, robbery, or forgery shall be expelled.
-Any student who denies any part of Scripture or who or who tends to subvert the fundementals of faith shall be expelled.
